At the May 4 Knox County Board of Education work session, Superintendent Dr. Ricewick summarized year-end items and thanked the board after approval of the FY27 budget. "I want to begin by thanking you for approving an over $700 million budget for the FY27 season to improve outcomes for kids, including more than $22 million in salary investments for staff," he said.
The board also announced the selection committee's pick for student board representative: Dominic Palea of LNN STEM Academy was chosen following redacted application review and interviews.
During public forum, Daria Turner, speaking on behalf of the Knox County Education Association, expressed appreciation for the PEKA process and emphasized collaboration with district leaders: "Through PEKA, we have a meaningful space to engage in thoughtful dialogue, address challenges headon, and work collaboratively to create lasting solutions." Turner urged continued partnership to support educators and student outcomes.
The superintendent noted graduations are scheduled May 14-21 and that teacher appreciation week is ongoing. Several board members offered congratulations to graduates and thanks to teachers. The meeting adjourned following board forum remarks.
Next steps: routine items (grants and contracts) will proceed through staff review and subsequent board meetings as scheduled.
