Commissioner raises concerns about ITV-run animal shelter; judge and staff call some reports dated

During the court’s general comments, Commissioner Marksberry raised concerns about the county animal shelter operation under ITV and said she has financial details and staff information indicating the number of animal deaths has risen since ITV took over. She said she would distribute documents and cited a screenshot of a text she described as a request to the shelter veterinarian to perform mass euthanasia.

The judge and other commissioners responded that at least part of the reported information was older and had been discussed previously; the judge said he had seen the screenshot and noted that some cases involved animals from hoarding situations that were not suitable for rehoming. Marksberry said she will provide the financial and personnel information to the court and asked the fiscal court to consider taking shelter control back if concerns are substantiated.

No formal staff report from ITV or a county-directed investigation was presented at the meeting. Commissioners indicated they will examine the materials Marksberry said she will provide and consider next steps; the judge noted that some accounts referenced in public discussion had appeared in prior local reporting.
