The committee approved two as-needed maintenance contracts and received a timeline for a planned field turf replacement.
Ken Thompson reported that the district solicited multiple bids for asbestos remediation and HVAC maintenance. For asbestos abatement the low bidder, KN Environmental, submitted the lowest hourly rate ($100/hr) and, after reference checks, staff recommended award; the committee approved the recommendation. For HVAC maintenance and repair the committee awarded to the low bidder (General AC & Heating) on an hourly, not-to-exceed basis to support in-house staff with larger or concurrent projects.
Separately, staff and city representatives briefed the committee on a compressed turf-replacement procurement schedule. The city will purchase turf material via a cooperative purchase while the district (with city assistance) will bid installation; timeline highlights presented: material purchase this week, installation bid out May 7, shop-drawing approval May 18, bids open May 26, award by June 12, demolition June 29'July 10, installation July 13'24, turf installation starting July 27 and substantial completion targeted Aug. 21. Staff noted graduation accommodations and alternative locations for band and athletics during the work.
Committee members said the maintenance contracts and the field project will improve safety and reduce surprise costs from emergency repairs; staff said the contracts are hourly on an as-needed basis and will not guarantee a set number of hours.
