The Colorado Senate on April 29 advanced a package of bills through committee reports, consent calendars and third reading. Many bills were adopted with little debate; notable outcomes included:
- House Bill 1318 — Traffic safety near schools: amendment L007 adopted to name the measure the Liam Stewart School Zone Act; bill passed on third reading (33 yeas, 1 no, 1 excused). (See timeline for amendment and passage.)
- Senate Bill 134 — Fees by payment card networks: passed on third reading.
- Senate Bill 45 — Workforce development in the nuclear sector: passed on third reading.
- Senate Bill 91 — Exclusions for certain printed news deliverers in state labor law: passed on third reading.
- Senate Bill 162 — Releasing healthcare test results: passed after floor discussion; several members voiced privacy concerns; vote recorded (29 yeas, 5 no, 1 excused).
- Senate Bill 155, 156, 146 and others were taken up and passed (see clerks’ readings and committee reports). Several bills were also adopted from the consent calendar and ordered to third reading or engrossed as reported.
Many other bills were acted on in committee of the whole and on the consent calendar; the clerk read committee recommendations and the Senate adopted committee reports to advance the listed measures to third reading or final passage as appropriate.
What’s next: Bills that passed third reading will proceed according to normal legislative steps; items laid over (notably SB70) will return at later calendar dates or be refiled.
