Council approves alcohol sales at Sucker Days; organizers expand beer-garden footprint

The Nixa City Council approved Resolution 2026-25 authorizing the sale and distribution of fermented malt beverages and wine on city property for the 2026 Sucker Days festival.

Planning and Development Director Scott Godby explained the city code requires authorization for multi-day special events and for alcohol sales and noted staff’s review of the Chamber’s application. Godby said staff recommends approval but that staff will hold the permit until the state liquor license is received.

Representatives of the Nixa Area Chamber of Commerce and event organizers described plans to slightly expand the beer garden to include three vacant lots and outlined staffing and security measures to control entry and ensure alcohol does not leave the site. One organizer praised the city’s operational support—barricades, public works assistance and police presence—and called the festival “a place-making opportunity” for the community.

Council voted to approve the resolution; staff and the chamber will continue to coordinate logistics and the city will confirm the state liquor license before releasing the permit.
