Mayor highlights move-out donation drives, pool and youth sports schedules, and local volunteer needs

In the weekly update the mayor and co-host Kyle Johansson ran through a package of community notices and volunteer opportunities for the coming weeks.

Move-out donation drives begin the 1st with collection times listed as Friday 2–7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Collection points named in the update included the Southeast Ohio History Center, Passion Works, the Train Depot on West Union/Station Street (Ohio University Lot 40 will be available Sunday only), and Christ Lutheran Church (Friday and Saturday only). "For the university, it'll only be on Sunday that they have that," the mayor said.

Parks and recreation announcements included registration opening May 1, swim tests for children under 14 on May 22 to qualify for lap and dive-well access, and an opening-day schedule for May 23 (lap swim and open swim blocks). The mayor also noted the leisure pool issue is being addressed by a contractor.

Youth baseball registration ends May 31 for T-ball (ages 5–6) and coach-pitch (ages 7–9); practices start mid-June with games running July 6–Aug. 6. Finally, the hosts urged residents to consider paid positions as soccer officials (weekday evening shifts) and to contact Athens Arts, Parks and Recreation for details.
