A Greensboro City staff member announced that city crews will remove parking meters this weekend from three downtown surface lots, replacing pay-at-the-meter with mobile payments.
“Say goodbye to parking meters downtown,” the staff member said, listing the Washington Federal lot next to the police department, the city/county lot beside the Melvin Municipal Office Building, and the Depot lot at Washington and Davie streets as locations affected by the change.
The staff member said drivers can still park in those lots but “you just need to use the Park Mobile app to pay for your parking.” The city recommended motorists download and register with the ParkMobile app before the meters are removed to avoid confusion.
The announcement noted that surface parking downtown will remain free after 5:00 p.m. The staff member directed people with questions to the city’s website, greensboro-nc.gov, and suggested using the site search term “parking” for more information.
City officials did not provide additional details in the message about enforcement timing, meter removal schedule beyond “this weekend,” or any changes to permit or monthly parking; those specifics were not specified in the announcement.
