Redevelopment commission approves Comcast work in Scottsburg Heights after communication assurances

At item 6A the commission considered a Comcast request to finish installing equipment in the Scottsburg Heights subdivision. Commissioners and staff said Comcast had previously arrived on site without notifying the RDC, the landowner, which prompted complaints about insufficient communication.

Mandy reported she had contacted Comcast and received an email assurance from the company that crews would not enter private homeowners’ property unless they were installing service for those homeowners and that they would secure required permits. Commissioners discussed whether any prior cease-and-desist or other legal step remained in effect and confirmed staff had sought attorney guidance.

After discussion about communication protocols and permitting, the commission put the motion to a voice vote and approved allowing Comcast to proceed with installation under the conditions discussed (proper permits and homeowner permission for any work on private lots). The motion carried with no recorded nays.

Commissioners said they expected clearer prior notification in future projects where the RDC is the landowner, and asked staff to ensure that company communications and permits are provided to the commission or counsel when work is proposed on RDC-controlled parcels.
