Salem High School Building Committee readies public outreach and follow-up meetings ahead of May 5 vote

The Salem High School Building Committee met April 27 and reviewed final outreach steps ahead of a May 5 vote on the project, with committee members confirming a May 12 follow-up meeting and a May 26 School Committee briefing.

Margaret, who led the milestone schedule review, said the project’s public presentations and online forums are winding down and called May 5 “the big day.” She noted that Mayor Nate and others participated in recent online forums and that the project website and a League of Women Voters post include the open-house recording and additional materials.

The committee confirmed a Building Committee follow-up session on May 12 to plan next steps after the vote and a subsequent School Committee meeting, which participants clarified would occur on May 26. Committee members encouraged residents to consult the project website for the recording and materials present at the open house.

Public commenters at the meeting raised questions about how the vote was characterized in a recent mailing and about where detailed cost and scope estimates would be posted; those concerns were raised as public comment and were not resolved during the meeting. The committee did not take a formal vote on project approvals at this session.

The committee adjourned after handling routine business and public comment; the Building Committee will reconvene May 12, and the School Committee follow-up is scheduled for May 26.
