Gov. Tim Walz urged the Legislature to pass a bonding bill that would invest an additional $907 million in the states infrastructure.
In his address, Walz said the package would support public safety, clean water, safe transportation, affordable housing and flood mitigation. He framed the request as necessary to maintain and expand projects throughout Minnesota and to sustain union construction jobs repairing roads, bridges and public facilities.
Walz did not provide bill text or project-by-project allocations during the speech; he asked lawmakers to "join me" in supporting the bonding bill and to send it to his desk. The governor described the investment as part of a broader infrastructure strategy that includes lead pipe removal, upgrades to veterans homes and water-treatment plants.
Next steps: Bonding bills typically proceed through committee hearings and appropriation processes; Walzs request will need legislative authorization and project lists before funds can be committed.
