DuPage County committee approves multiple transportation contracts and a nearly $795,000 increase to East Branch trail engineering work

The DuPage County Finance Committee approved a slate of transportation-related contracts on April 28, including a substantial funding increase for engineering work on the East Branch DuPage River Trail.

Member Ozog moved to combine a set of transportation items and to approve an amendment (261051) to resolution DTP 103A23, increasing funding for Christopher B. Burke Engineering by $794,991 to correct an exhibit and fund additional preliminary engineering services along the East Branch DuPage River Trail from Butterfield Road to Illinois Prairie Path. The amendment increases the contract to an amended total of $2,421,417, representing a 48.88% increase on that contract and a cumulative increase of 61.43, according to the presenter.

The committee also awarded a $4,918,991.26 contract to K5 Construction Corporation for the 2026 roadway resurfacing North program and a $5,788,000 award to Builders Paving LLC for the South program, along with multiple other awards for trailers, parts and professional construction-engineering services. One multi-year professional-services contract to Collins Engineers for bridge inspection services was approved with a not-to-exceed total of $700,000 through May 31, 2030; other awards included H.W. Lochner ($479,147) and Alfred Benesch and Company ($500,000 cap for structural engineering services).

Member Ozog and Member DiSarte led the motions; a combination of voice votes carried the slate. The committee approved several intergovernmental mowing agreements (see transportation timeline) in the same session.

The Christopher B. Burke Engineering amendment drew particular attention on cost and scope: the presenter said the change corrects a scrivener's error in exhibit C and adds funding to continue professional preliminary engineering along a trail corridor. No public comment was recorded on the transportation awards at the meeting.
