City council OKs interlocal agreement with Bear County Precinct 2 constable

Balcones Heights — The City Council approved an interlocal agreement April 27 with the Bear County Constable’s Office, Precinct 2, allowing the constable’s officers to use city facilities and coordinate assistance when needed.

Police Chief Covazos described the arrangement as a mutual‑aid, force‑multiplier approach that gives Precinct 2 officers access to report‑writing rooms and provides the city with additional law‑enforcement presence when appropriate. The chief said each agency would remain responsible for its own personnel costs and overtime.

Why it matters: For a small police department, cooperative agreements with county agencies can provide flexible coverage and rapid augmentation during incidents while keeping financial responsibility with each participating agency.
