Hortonville officials report high-water monitoring and add patrols as detours push traffic through town

Village officials reported coordinated monitoring and operational responses to recent high-water and roadway closures during the April 16 meeting.

Administrator Nathan and Director of Public Works Aaron said they had been verifying lake and dam water levels, testing the emergency spillway, and running a preliminary water-flow model; Aaron told trustees the emergency spillway for the village dam was functioning as designed and that DNR inspectors had reviewed conditions. The village is working to lower lake levels modestly to provide additional capacity while watching downstream impacts.

Police Chief Brian told the board that detours and state highway closures had pushed significant additional traffic through Hortonville, causing safety concerns around school drop-off times and at a key four-way intersection. The chief said extra patrols and altered shift assignments were deployed to monitor traffic and address hazardous parking or commercial vehicles blocking intersections. He said the village is in contact with state and county agencies and will continue to adjust resources as conditions change.

Library Director Ally said the library is offering Wi‑Fi and charging stations to residents from neighboring communities affected by road closures. Attorney Tyler and administration staff said they will continue coordinating with county and state officials and will brief the board as conditions evolve.
