Committee debates wording for attendance incentives but keeps broad approach

Legal counsel advised the committee that examples can be kept broad in the policy text and more specific descriptions can appear in regulations or the district’s practice guidance. Committee members also discussed reorganizing sections so consequences for excused and unexcused absences appear alongside definitions, and confirmed that the policy changes were not removing legally required content.

Next steps: staff will harmonize wording across the policy, prepare a clean draft for a first read in May, and clarify whether details of the incentive approaches will be maintained in regulation or described in parent communications.
