Lockwood‑Mathews Mansion announces extended exhibits and summer programs; city approves architect selection

Representatives of the Lockwood‑Mathews Mansion updated the Norwalk Historical Commission on upcoming events and exhibit plans and thanked the commission for support as museum programming ramps up for the summer.

Doug Hempstead said the 'Journey of Hope' Irish immigration exhibit — originally scheduled to close in May — has been extended to mid‑September in partnership with Quinnipiac due to strong public interest. The mansion’s Victorian tea on May 3 is nearly sold out, and a Revolutionary War‑themed exhibit tracking the Matthews and Lockwood families opens June 11 and runs through Oct. 3. He also described a student writing campaign running through May 19 and other community programming linked to the city's America‑250 anniversary.

Hempstead reported that the mayor and Common Council approved architect David Scott Parker as a sole‑source selection to lead planned conservation and interior work. He noted increased tour demand, the return of bus tours and that the mansion is recruiting a replacement part‑time educator after a staff departure.

The commission discussed logistics for holding an in‑person meeting at the mansion in the future and thanked mansion staff for hosting and programming efforts; no formal vote was required on the updates.
