Council clears consent agenda and approves bus leases, appointments and TIF adjustment

The Howard County Council approved a package of routine items on the consent agenda and voted on several standalone items during the legislative session.

Clerk (S6) read a long consent list of appointments — including reappointments to the Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board, Commission for Women, Public Ethics Commission, Housing Commission, Human Rights Commission and transportation boards — and the council approved them by roll call. The council also approved financing (Council Bill 75) for six Regional Transportation Agency buses after an amendment inserted costs and an amortization schedule; a separate lease (Council Bill 76) for operation of the Timbers of Troy Golf Course was also approved.

Later in the evening the council expanded the Downtown Columbia TIF district by approving Council Resolution 124 to add property commonly known as Toby's (intended for the county arts center/parking) to the development district. Some members expressed disappointment that private partner support for that specific project was not guaranteed by the change.
