Board approves police cleaning contract; liquor-license changes sent back for more details

The board approved Resolution 1-2739, authorizing a cleaning-services agreement with N&M Cleaning of Caseyville to provide monthly janitorial service for the Swansea Police Department at $1,800 per month. The chief confirmed the vendor had completed the necessary background checks for access to a secured building and the committee forwarded the resolution to the board, which approved it by roll call.

Trustees also discussed two liquor-license questions but did not adopt any changes. One business (a barber shop in a strip center) is proposing a change of use to a bar to address an occupancy issue; staff said a liquor license would be required if the use changed, and trustees requested floor plans and additional information before considering the request. Board members expressed concern about adjacent uses and the practical implications of converting a small existing business into an assembly-type establishment.

Separately, Lucky Duck (near Social Kitchen) requested an extension from midnight to 2 a.m. Trustees said they had not seen problems at the location and were open to more information; some members asked staff to return with additional details before a formal vote.

No liquor licenses were granted at the meeting; staff will bring additional materials, sketches or floor plans for trustees to review at a subsequent meeting.
