The couple told commissioners their house sits at the end of a dead‑end lane with a creek and limited public visibility; they said they have a seven‑month‑old child and two dogs and are concerned about wild animals entering the yard. They said a 4‑foot fence required by code left them feeling vulnerable and that a traditional 6‑foot backyard fence would provide needed safety and privacy.

Commissioners considered the site layout, neighbors’ existing fences, and the limited visibility of the yard from public ways. After a motion and second, the board granted the variance by unanimous roll call.
