Board accepts $9,540 career-switcher mentor grant to support provisional teachers

The Warren County School Board unanimously accepted a $9,540 grant from the U.S. Department of Education on April 22 to support mentor services for career-switcher teachers who are completing level-two licensing this school year.

Staff explained the grant will fund mentor training and supports intended to help provisional, career-switcher teachers transition into tenured positions. A board member who is herself a career switcher described that typical career-switcher pathways can include a year of coursework followed by a provisional classroom placement; the grant is targeted to mentor preparation rather than tuition or coursework.

The motion, which also authorized the superintendent to request the additional appropriation from the Warren County Board of Supervisors, passed by voice vote.
