The Prince George’s County Board of Education voted 6-0 on April 23 to close its business meeting and move into an executive session to discuss personnel, legal, administrative and collective matters.
Chairman Brandon Jackson read a statutory closing statement on the board floor, citing General Provision Article 3‑305B, subsections 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7, and listing the permitted topics. "This meeting will now be closed to discuss the following matters as permitted under General Provision Article 3‑305B, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7," he said, noting personnel matters raised privacy concerns and that public discussion could harm the district’s legal or negotiating position.
The board completed a roll-call vote on whether to close the meeting. Ms. McMillan called the roll. Dr. Ajagaye, Ms. Booze‑Struther, Mr. Briggs, Ms. Brown, Ms. Oliva and Mr. Jackson voted "Aye," producing six affirmative votes. The clerk announced, "There are six in the affirmative," and the chair said the motion was adopted.
After the vote, the chair instructed members to proceed to the executive room for the closed session and directed staff to pause the public recording. No public details about the topics to be discussed in the closed session were provided during the business meeting beyond the statutory categories cited by the chair.
The board’s public business meeting was recessed at 5:36 p.m. for the executive session; the transcript records the motion, the reading of the legal justification and the unanimous vote to close the meeting, but does not include discussion from the closed session.
