Metro South CID marks 10 years, Shadowbox Studios joins district

Metro South Community Improvement District celebrated its 10th anniversary with speakers crediting a decade of local investment and intergovernmental partnerships for improvements in South DeKalb. A CID presenter said the district has worked to transform a formerly dilapidated industrial area by focusing on economic uplift, transportation and public safety.

The celebration highlighted partnerships with DeKalb County, the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Federal Highway Administration. "You have to have a need. You have to be able to develop that relationship," the CID presenter said, stressing face-to-face coordination with the DeKalb County CEO's office and county commissioners.

The presenter said CID-funded projects target multiple goals: "to uplift the area, improve transportation, improve mobility, and improve the safety ... from reducing crime as well as beautification." The speaker added, "we look a lot better today than we did a few years ago," framing the anniversary as a milestone while noting work remains to be done.

Event organizers announced that Shadowbox Studios has formally joined the Metro South CID. "Since our doors first opened in 2017, Shadowbox Studios has been committed to the local community," a Shadowbox representative said, thanking the CID for its support and expressing optimism about the next decade. The representative also praised the CID’s approach to using locally raised funds with partner support: "CIDs do. They develop an area and they put their own money into it."
