The board approved a request from First Fridays and the Elks Club to close four parking spaces at 220 North Main Street for food trucks for the First Friday in May.
Amanda Rose, director of First Fridays, told the board she had spoken with the Elks and they were "all on board for this particular street closure" and that the current request is an addendum to an earlier request for May through July. Rose said the group plans to return with a more detailed request if it seeks repeated monthly closures or a full street closure later in the year. The board suggested a low-intrusion approach for the immediate date: reserve parking spaces with no-parking signage rather than a full street closure until the street department and organizers finalize logistics.
The motion to close four spaces in front of the Elks building (220 N. Main) passed unanimously. Board members asked organizers to coordinate with the street commissioner, the assistant street commissioner and city staff before presenting any broader monthly closure requests.
Why it matters: The action authorizes limited temporary use of public right-of-way for a community event and requires coordination with operations staff to ensure traffic, access and state-road concerns are addressed.
What happens next: Organizers will print names on the sign-in pad for the record, coordinate with the street department about barricades and signage, and may return later with a refined request for additional dates or a broader street closure.
