The Hammond City Council took a status update from the owners of 4747 Baltimore, where an earlier order required removal of a second-floor apartment.
Stephanie, who identified herself as the daughter of the owner Pedro, told the council the former apartment will be used for storage and that funding delays have slowed electrical and other work. "There's just a delay on funding to get ... everything electrical situated thus far," she said.
Inspections staff told the owners that portions of the conversion will need structural work: reopening some walls to address altered bearing elements, repairing or removing a front chimney with a large hole, and removing a garage that is leaning and starting to worry neighbors. Staff said it would mail the owners an inspection report listing all outstanding items and suggested a three-week follow-up so the owners can present a timeline.
The council approved a motion to set a status hearing for May 14, 2026, and instructed inspections staff to provide the owners with a clear list of required repairs. The board emphasized that work must be completed in a timely manner to avoid further enforcement.
