Panel advances pay increase for Gleason mayor and aldermen (House Bill 2670)

The committee advanced House Bill 2670, a local bill to increase compensation for Gleason’s mayor and aldermen, by a recorded vote of nine 'ayes' and zero 'nays,' sending the bill to the State and Local Government committee.

Chairman Dortch moved to place the bill on 'the hill' of today’s calendar, and Chairman Darby, who described the bill, said the town’s pay schedule had been the same since about 2004 and that the change was needed. “House Bill 2670 is a local bill for Gleason that are wanting to up the ante for their mayor and their alderman… that’s been in the I think since 2004 been the same pay schedule and they’re needing to raise it,” Darby said.

Committee members recorded no substantive objections during the discussion. The clerk opened the roll and recorded nine votes in favor and zero against; the bill therefore moves on to State and Local Government for further consideration. No amendments or fiscal details were provided during the committee session.
