A presenter for the Bluffton Kiwanis Club used a Library Expo appearance in Beaufort County to outline the volunteer group's local activities and recruit members and volunteers. The presenter said the club has 28 members and meets on the first and third Wednesdays each month at Jim and Nick’s, with dinner at 5:45 p.m. and a program and speaker at 6:30 p.m.
The presenter described several ongoing service projects aimed at children and families, including work at the Boys and Girls Club, Meals on Wheels deliveries coordinated by members, and tutoring at Bluffton elementary schools. The club also supports the 14th Circuit solicitor’s Victims Child Center by supplying toys and other items for children and families who must visit the center.
“We do some tutoring at the elementary schools in Bluffton,” the presenter said. “We help give some money toward their book fairs and STEM programs.” The presenter also outlined the club’s Comfort for Children campaign, which provides small baby blankets to children served by Family Promise, Bluffton Self Help and similar community organizations.
The presenter announced a scholarship program, saying the club has sponsored 10 high school seniors who will each receive $2,500. “We’re gonna have a really nice scholarship dinner in a couple of weeks for these students and their families,” the presenter said, noting that awards emphasize community service rather than class rank.
When asked how people can get involved, the presenter said the club maintains Facebook and Instagram accounts and provided a contact string in the presentation (transcribed as “bluffedandkoanas.org”) for prospective volunteers. The presenter also recounted recent outreach and fundraising: the club participated in a Dancing with the Local Stars event promoted by WHHI and plans a jazz/music night later this year. The presenter added that several members read with children at the Neighborhood Outreach Connection (NOC) table at the fair.
The presenter closed by encouraging interested residents to attend a meeting or reach out online to learn more about membership and volunteer opportunities.
