During its April 21 meeting the Newark Unified School District board approved several routine and personnel actions, passed recognition resolutions, and adopted a required credentialing declaration.
The board unanimously adopted a resolution designating May 4–8, 2026 as Teacher Appreciation Week and May 5 as Day of the Teacher, and separately declared May 18–22, 2026 as Classified School Employee Week. Both resolutions were read on the record and carried by voice vote (five ayes).
On personnel matters the board approved a revised personnel report and consent‑agenda items. The board also approved Addendum One to the individual contract with Ed Theory Staffing Services, authorizing a $16,284 buyout to convert a contracted teacher to district employment; trustees said doing so supports continuity in special‑education staffing and can produce long‑term savings.
Assistant Superintendent Mr. Williams presented the annual Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators — a routine document the district files with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to allow emergency credentials if staffing needs arise — and the board adopted the declaration by vote (five ayes).
Several consent items were approved and item 15.6 was pulled for later consideration. Board members asked staff to ensure revised personnel documents were added to the meeting record.
What’s next: The superintendent and staff will follow up on any pulled items and bring the district office server/roof emergency back to the board for a separate action item.
