At its April 21 meeting the Alton Town Planning Board continued action on a March 27 extension request from Jones & Beach Engineers for a previously approved Route 28 boat-storage project.
Mike George, a partner for the project, said erosion control measures were installed and limited grading and rock work had occurred but acknowledged there has been no substantial vertical construction. Board members expressed concern that prior extension language required the start of construction by certain dates and that available evidence in the record showed only limited site activity. Several members said leaving disturbed ground in place for years without meaningful progress is undesirable, but they also recognized the applicant faces market and financing challenges.
The board asked staff to arrange for the town engineer to visit the site to verify the condition of erosion controls, drainage and the extent of work completed, and asked Jones & Beach and the applicant to provide clearer documentation of progress and timelines. The board voted to continue the extension request to the May 19, 2026 meeting to allow time for the site visit and for the applicant and engineer to provide further information.
No roll-call vote tally was recorded in the meeting transcript; the record shows the continuation motion carried.
