Bill Cronin and Pasco Economic Development Council staff presented consolidated quarter-two metrics to the Pasco County commission on April 21, reporting business-startup activity, recruitment leads and recent wins.
Key impacts cited included 260 new jobs and $57.9 million in capital investment associated with recent project wins; EDC staff also reported SmartStart startup launches, retention and expansion activity, and a pipeline of about 160 active projects. The presentation highlighted recent recruitment successes, a Balducci (Bauducco) announcement with a June 26 ribbon-cutting in Zephyrhills and ongoing outreach to site selectors.
Commissioners focused questions on strategic matters: Commissioner Starkey asked how incentive compliance and jobs commitments would be monitored given potential AI-driven shifts in labor needs; staff said incentive payments are tied to compliance and W-2 job verification and that OEG handles compliance reporting. Commissioners urged stronger workforce training (AmSkills) and closer contact with recruited firms to verify hiring plans and ensure promised jobs materialize. The EDC also noted a recent uptick in earned-media value and new followers on social channels.
The board formally received the metric packet; no new incentive approvals were recorded during the presentation.
