The Avoyelles Parish School Board began its April 21 meeting by adopting resolutions of respect for two recently deceased former employees and by recognizing a wide slate of students and teachers.
The board read a resolution honoring the late Rosemary Scallan Roy, noting her teaching and librarian service and 20 years with the district; Mr. Delo led the resolution and offered condolences to the family. The body then read a similar resolution honoring the late Maxine Carolyn Burrs, a retired school counselor with 33 years of service; both resolutions were approved and will be entered into the official minutes.
Later the board presented Student of the Month and Teacher of the Month certificates for multiple schools and named elementary, middle and high students of the year after a portfolio and interview process. Superintendent Tutor explained the selection procedure for students of the year, saying district winners are chosen after a school‑level portfolio and interview process.
The board also recognized the Marksville High School basketball team for winning a state championship, and the coach and student‑athletes addressed the board to thank the community for support.
Ending: The recognitions and resolutions were approved and will be recorded in the district minutes; photos and presentations were scheduled after the meeting.
