Harper urges drivers to heed work zone signage during National Work Zone Awareness Week

Harper urged motorists to slow down and follow posted signs during National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 20–24, saying the Department of Public Works is continuing upgrades to city roadways that may put temporary work zones on local streets.

Harper said Public Works staff are trained to set up work zones safely and to ensure traffic control complies with federal and state regulations. "Safety is our number one priority for our staff and for motorists," Harper said, urging drivers to obey posted signage and exercise extra caution near crews working on the roads.

The announcement noted that work zones can create additional driving hazards and requested "an extra amount of caution" from motorists. Harper added that proper signage, staff safety measures and regulated traffic control are in place to reduce risk to workers and road users.
