Support services technician reclassified, public-records duty added, KCSO merit board approves

John Rder, director of the support services unit, told the KCSO merit board that the support services technician job description has been on the books for some time and that a reclassification is needed. He said the job grade was equivalent to a technician three, so the change will make promotion to the role consistent with that grade.

Rder also said the updated description adds a required duty to fulfill public records requests. "We also added a required duty of fulfill public records requests," he told the board, noting the change reflects work the unit now performs.

A board member moved to approve the revised support services technician description; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. No roll-call tally was recorded during the meeting.

The board did not discuss a specific timeline for implementing the reclassification. Rder characterized the change as a personnel reclassification to align grade and duties.
