At the Token Municipal Golf Authority meeting, the superintendent delivered a detailed operations report covering turf care, equipment maintenance, inmate-crew cleanup and scheduling for core-punching greens.
Sean, the superintendent, said staff have been spraying greens with fungicide every couple of weeks and have fertilized fairways. He reported new sod on the No. 3 tee box that staff hope to open next week and that several new tee boxes built over the winter are already in use. "We sprayed again last night with fungicide," he said. "We've got all the greens fertilized."
Maintenance work also included mowing equipment service and replacing rules pamphlets and scorecards in carts to improve etiquette compliance. Sean said crews thinned pine trees behind No. 8 to increase sunlight and completed aeration and fertilization around fairways.
On operations support, Sean described a recurring cleanup arrangement with an inmate crew from McAlester that picks up trash and clears brush around the course once a month; he said, "they're going to come May the 5th this next time," and that an officer accompanies the crew during work. He noted the crew performs manual cleanup tasks and that staffing constraints limit the authority's ability to have them more frequently.
Sean discussed plans to core punch greens when weather permits (the authority postponed a previous attempt because of rain) and said staff intend to punch now and again in July, collect cores into a planned nursery green and repair practice surfaces. He also reported golf carts are awaiting batteries and that delivery timing remains pending.
Trustees moved and approved the superintendent's report by roll call during the meeting. A trustee later requested a current financial statement; staff agreed to email it to board members.
