District reports all buildings cleared and reinspected after fire‑safety checks; Roxboro had one minor violation

The district’s health and safety officer summarized the 2023 revision to the manual governing fire and building safety inspections and reported that, following reinspections where required, every district building has received the requisite certificate of occupancy for the 2026–27 school year.

Inspector McBonville explained the three‑tier violation classification used in the inspections: one‑point minor infractions (examples: non‑rated multi‑plug adapters, storage clearance issues), two‑point major violations (examples: emergency lighting failures, improperly maintained fire doors), and three‑point severe violations (for example, obstructed means of egress or doors not operable from the egress side). He said that any building with a three‑point violation must be fully corrected before a certificate of occupancy is issued.

McBonville reported that the district’s non‑conformances noted between Feb. 16, 2016 and April 1, 2026 were corrected and reinspected where necessary and that certificates of occupancy were issued for all buildings. He singled out Roxboro Elementary for strong performance overall but noted it had one one‑point violation that was addressed.

Board members thanked the safety staff and there were no subsequent action items recorded in the meeting minutes specific to the inspection report.
