Forest Park public‑works and planning staff told residents at a Ward One meeting that several park and sidewalk projects are moving forward and that a small residential infill project will appear before the planning and urban redevelopment board this week.
Director Matthews said Bill Lee Park renovations are in progress, Theater Park upgrades are substantially complete, design work on the municipal complex continues and Star Park work is underway. "Our Lindaway sidewalk is complete," he said, and a Wall Drop sidewalk is in progress; he added a firm will acquire right‑of‑way to install a planned 5‑ft sidewalk to connect North Avenue to Forest Park Middle School to improve pedestrian access.
Meeting hosts read an economic‑development update noting that Forest Park will participate in the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GIC) program beginning November 2025, a three‑year technical assistance program to support housing resources and planning. The planning and community development office reported a residential infill development of two duplexes (four units) on Steel Wood Cro Cove in Ward One is scheduled for the planning and redevelopment board this week. The first development‑impact‑fee advisory committee kickoff meeting is set for April 21.
No formal votes or funding approvals were taken at the meeting. Staff said positions have been filled in planning (one planner start date confirmed) and that the city will continue design work and right‑of‑way acquisition as part of upcoming construction phases.
