Forest Park's recreation and leisure department detailed plans for the summer season and a slate of community events at a Ward One meeting on Wednesday.
"We are currently preparing the outdoor pool to open this summer ... around Memorial Day weekend and run through Labor Day weekend," said Tyreek Max, director of recreation and leisure services. He said sports opening day activities are underway this weekend, summer camp will begin in June, and registration for a Legacy Resident trip to Callaway Gardens is open through the senior center.
Max previewed several community events: a Juneteenth celebration scheduled for June 20 with fireworks, a World Cup watch event the following Sunday (Father's Day), and Selena Day on April 25 at the Fountain from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., which follows an autism awareness walk that same day. Organizers also described a large "Gifts at the Park" distribution planned for July 17 (organizers said previous distributions delivered significant donated items) and a Mother's Day tea at the senior center on May 8 at 11:00 a.m.; registration instructions were provided (contact Miss Ann Foster at the senior center or council aides).
Andre Henry, a council aide, announced a health and wellness fair on May 16 at Star Park with free fitness classes and a cooking demonstration, scheduled roughly from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Speakers repeatedly reminded families that Georgia Milestone testing occurs April 27–May 4 and urged student attendance. Several events require advance registration; residents were directed to the parks and senior center for signups.
