Burkburnett hires Karen Sanderson as library director

The Burkburnett Board of Commissioners unanimously approved hiring Karen Sanderson as the city’s library director, with a proposed start date of April 6, a staff member said.

Staff described Sanderson as bringing 27 years of library experience, mostly in school settings, and noted she retired from Burkburnett ISD after 24 years. The recommendation highlighted Sanderson’s master’s degree in library and information science, experience in programming, collection management and community engagement, and prior work in accounting and departmental budgeting.

"Ms. Sanderson brings 27 years of library experience," the staff member said during the meeting. Commissioners offered brief congratulations and the motion to hire carried unanimously.

Sanderson was present at the meeting and responded that she was excited about the position. The board did not attach any special conditions to the hire in the public discussion recorded in the transcript; the personnel appointment proceeded by vote.
