The Austin City Planning Commission on April 14, 2026, approved minutes from its Nov. 12, 2025 meeting and voted to continue its main agenda item until May 12, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., when consultants will present the draft comprehensive plan and the public may offer feedback.
A motion to approve the Nov. 12 minutes was made by Commissioner Swinson and seconded by Commissioner Burroughs; the chair recorded the motion as carried following a voice vote. Commissioners then moved and seconded a motion to continue the single agenda item to May 12 (motion by Commissioner Swinson; second by Commissioner Bartley); that motion was likewise approved by voice vote.
Staff member Holly told commissioners that the comprehensive plan is substantial and offered to provide access for review. "If you didn't look at it yet, I can tell you there's a lot of pages," Holly said, noting in a follow-up comment the plan's length as "177." Commissioners and staff encouraged broader public participation, noting that similar sessions in other jurisdictions drew limited attendance and asking colleagues to flag anything that "does not sound like Austin."
Commissioners were told the commission will make a recommendation to city council after collecting feedback; staff said council will consider the plan at a work session and could adopt the final document unless substantial changes are requested. The commission's May 12 meeting will include a presentation, a question-and-answer period for commissioners and the public, and time for commissioners to determine whether to forward a recommendation to council.
The meeting concluded with a motion by Commissioner Burls to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Swenson, which the commission approved by voice vote. The commission's next meeting is scheduled for May 12, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., when the comprehensive-plan presentation and public comment are expected to take place.
