The Vermillion County Council on May 11 approved a preliminary economic revitalization area resolution for Apex Solar that opens the process for a possible property‑tax abatement.
Chair introduced the preliminary ERA resolution (Res. 2026‑07), saying Apex requested a 10‑year, 100% abatement and has filed a statement of benefits. The council discussed that any increase in assessed value would still flow through to county and township taxing units and that an economic development agreement (EDA) to accompany the abatement remains under negotiation.
Council members moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by voice vote. The Chair said a public hearing and second vote will take place at the council’s June meeting to allow public comment and further deliberation.
No details regarding the final terms of the EDA or the length and scope of benefits beyond the preliminary filing were finalized at the May meeting.
