Student council members from Dove Creek Middle School presented their "points of pride" to the Oconee County Board of Education on May 11, highlighting a student-run podcast called "Behind the Armor," their Knights Brew hot-chocolate fundraiser and community service projects.
Student council members George and Ruby described how the council organizes each year, elects officers, produces a weekly podcast and raises funds through Knights Brew sales held every Friday. They reported that Knights Brew and other fundraising produced around $2,000 this year and that the council used those funds to prioritize purchases such as new nighttime equipment (volleyballs, footballs, mini soccer goals), cafeteria microwaves, and additional seating.
The students also discussed community service efforts, including a cannathon that collected more than 800 cans and a Secret Santa program where members organize gift drives and distribution. Assistant principals Lisa Thomas and Lisa Vaughn thanked the board and reaffirmed the school’s appreciation for district support.
Board members asked practical questions about the AI-generated art display and details of planned equipment purchases. The presentation ended with the board inviting the students for a photo.
"Student council aims to unite the student body by providing them a voice in the building," one student said during the presentation.
