Trustees voted to approve an out-of-country trip for North Henderson High School JROTC students to Japan in June 2027.
District staff told trustees the trip would be organized by EF Educational Tours, replicate the group's prior successful spring-break Europe trip and directly support JROTC curriculum units on international relations, military history, leadership and technology. The tentative itinerary includes three days in Tokyo plus visits to cultural and historic sites and travel by high-speed rail with a possible Mount Fuji viewing segment. Staff noted the trip is scheduled after the school year ends and will include adult supervision provided by Henderson County Public Schools if the trip is approved.
Board members asked about the per‑student cost, fundraising options and what the district would do in case of an international safety concern. Staff gave the cost as $5,549 per student and said a monthly payment plan and fundraising options are commonly used; the board confirmed that district-chaperone requirements and safety monitoring would apply and that the district would track trip insurance and contingencies.
On a voice vote the board approved the trip and directed staff to ensure appropriate adult supervision and risk management.
