The Custer School District 16-1 board approved a districtwide meal-price adjustment after a staff recommendation.
Sarah (business office) and Terry (food-service representative) told the board their food-service manager, LSI, notified the district that management prices are increasing; staff recommended a 10¢ raise for standard meals and small increases for a la carte/snack items. "They suggested we increase everything 20¢, but were proposing a 10¢ increase for meals," the food-service staff said.
Board members asked whether reimbursement rates and donations would offset the increase; staff said the district expects state reimbursement increases (30¢ breakfast, 40¢ lunch for reduced meals) and continued donations that will help maintain a positive food-service balance. The motion to approve the meal prices carried on a voice vote.
Why it matters: small, districtwide meal-price increases affect families and the food-service program’s budget. Staff framed the change as a measured response to supplier price pressure while relying on reimbursements and local donations to limit the impact on students.
What’s next: updated meal prices will be implemented for FY27; staff will monitor the food-service account and reimbursement flows.
