Needham board finds body‑arts and practitioner fees comparable to neighboring towns

The Town of Needham Board of Health reviewed a regional fee comparison on April 1 and concluded that existing body‑arts and practitioner permit fees are comparable with neighboring communities and should remain unchanged for now.

Emily presented a table comparing local fees and said that Needham charges $280 for a body‑arts establishment permit while the average across reviewed towns is about $260 and the median $290. "We're not far off from that median number," she said. For individual practitioners, Needham’s fee is $80 (median among peers about $77; average about $104).

Board members said these figures support leaving the fees in place. They asked staff to further examine whether a risk‑based inspection or recognition system could affect food‑service permitting and to return with comparative food‑inspection data for a May discussion and a potential FY27 vote.

No formal fee change was voted at the meeting.
