The Baltimore County commission formally welcomed Tamara Gunther at its April meeting, where she introduced herself as the newly appointed commissioner representing District 5.
"My name is Tamara Gunther. I represent District 5," Gunther said, describing a 33-year career in state government that included roughly 192 years at Social Services/DHS and 14 years at the Maryland Health Exchange, where she said she served as a senior executive focused on health-care reform and the Affordable Care Act. "I've been in Baltimore County for about 10 years."
Gunther told commissioners she retired effective March 31 and was seeking a new opportunity to serve. Chair (speaker S1) and other members welcomed her remarks and asked staff to add her to future distribution lists so she would receive meeting materials and event notices.
The introduction came during roll call and preliminary business; the commission accepted a chat message as evidence of Commissioner Lucas White's presence and then moved on to approve the agenda and minutes for the evening. The chair emphasized the commission's need to maintain quorum for conducting official business and encouraged members to notify staff in advance when they cannot attend.
Gunther did not outline specific policy priorities at the meeting; commissioners said staff would include her on event and planning communications to integrate her into upcoming activities.
