The University Heights City Council on April 14 adopted proclamations designating April 24 as Arbor Day and naming May 2026 Bicycle Month, including a Bike to Work Week May 11–15 and a Bike Breakfast May 13. The council also adopted a proclamation setting parking and tailgating regulations for the Savannah Bananas Banana Ball Tour games at Kenik/Kenn Stadium (Iowa City) on July 3–4, 2026; rules include property-owner permission for yard parking, police direction of street parking, restrictions on sales per local ordinance, and portable-toilet placement windows (no earlier than 8:00 a.m. July 2 and removed no later than 5:00 p.m. July 5).
City Attorney Steve clarified the city’s noise ordinance does not apply to activity originating off city-owned property, so the city has no authority to regulate noise inside the stadium or on privately owned stadium property.
On legislative items, the council completed third consideration and adopted Ordinance 258 to update the community police relations ordinance for state-law compliance and Ordinance 259 to adjust the tree board membership (reducing members from five to three and changing term lengths). Both ordinances were adopted on third consideration by roll call vote.
