Kootenai commissioners approve lead custodian classification and pay increase for Building & Grounds

Lexi Pac, speaking for Human Resources, presented an initial classification evaluation on April 16 recommending a Grade 3 for a proposed lead custodian position in Building & Grounds because the job adds supervisory duties.

Pac said the Cornbury methodology was used to evaluate the new job description and that the grade 3 result reflected the additional supervisory responsibilities. Commissioners indicated the grade appeared reasonable; Jeff (staff) confirmed the evaluation seemed reasonable as well.

As a follow-up the county presented a recommended pay increase for the reclassified position. HR staff explained that freezing a not-yet-filled non-benefited senior maintenance operations position — budgeted at about $30,000 for this fiscal year — would offset the cost and produce a net saving for the county. Commissioners moved to approve the pay increase due to the initial classification, and the motion passed unanimously.

The board did not take additional action beyond approving the classification and the pay adjustment; staff will proceed with posting the position and the formal budget adjustments will be reflected in the county’s finance process.
