Lawmakers spotlight Art at the Capitol and welcome students, artists and community guests

Members of the House used introductions to highlight community visitors and promote Art at the Capitol.

Representative Lowen introduced a freshman class from Kealakehe High School and their instructors, Justin Brown and Randy Wear, and invited them to stand and be recognized in the chamber. "Welcome to your class of House of Representatives," Lowen said.

Representative Kahaloa recognized the Kahakai Elementary School student council and several named officers, thanked their teachers and staff, and asked members to applaud the students. Representative Gideon introduced artists Jeff Gress and Noah Hardesty, describing their public-art contributions across Oahu, and recognized Tyler Watanabe for his community reporting.

Representative Capella outlined programming for Art at the Capitol, including films, performances and exhibits, and introduced her office staff who helped organize the event. Representative Matayoshi noted that the chamber also hosted Dr. Judy Steinman from the Hawaii Psychological Association.

Other members used introductions to recognize staff and visitors: Representative Ohs noted Janette Lum's birthday, Representative Kush thanked Sheri Smallwood for serving as his committee clerk, Representative LaChica welcomed Courtney Rosca from SAS (data analytics), and Representative Garrett introduced Dave Nagaishi, chair of the Manoa Neighborhood Board. The floor's introductions and recognitions were ceremonial and did not result in formal actions.
