The Topeka Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the district’s recommended open-enrollment numbers for the 2027 academic year.
Dr. Kip presented a matrix allocating roughly 180 new out-of-district open-enrollment slots for next year, down from about 200 in prior years because of overall enrollment declines and staffing adjustments. The matrix gives priority to in-district needs such as students with special-education IEPs and adjusts availability at popular schools.
A board member moved to approve the numbers and Dr. Bonere seconded the motion. The vote carried unanimously.
What it means: The approved allocations set the number of new out-of-district seats the district will accept when processing open-enrollment requests for 2027; in-district priorities and special-education needs will guide how staff apply the matrix.
