Committee passes measure to prioritize protection of critical infrastructure from foreign influence

The Committee on Agriculture and Food Systems on April 17 voted to pass SCR 164 SD1 as amended. The resolution prioritizes efforts to protect Hawaii’s critical infrastructure from foreign influence and emphasizes community‑led renewable energy and local food systems to build resilience.

Sherry of 350 Hawaii testified in strong support, saying the state must ‘‘accelerate efforts to eliminate dependence on imported food, energy, and other commodities’’ and prioritize locally available energy and food systems. A representative of Greenpeace Hawaii also testified in support on behalf of the organization. The witnesses urged the committee to consider security and resilience in future planning.

In decision‑making the committee recorded its recommendation to pass on amended; excused absences were noted and the recommendation was adopted during the meeting.
