The Brentwood Board of Commissioners administered the oath of office to three new firefighters and recognized several officer promotions during its regular meeting.
Tyler Maddox, Mark Langford and Joe Claybrook each took the oath to serve as Brentwood firefighters. City officials welcomed the recruits and noted the hires include candidates with wildland and paramedic experience. "Welcome," the mayor said as each finished the oath.
Chief Hyde briefed the commission on recent professional certifications and promotions, saying the department had three lieutenants who recently achieved the Center for Public Safety Excellence fire officer designation. "The fire officer designation is something that these guys work really hard to complete," he said, describing the designation as a third-party validation of an officer's competency.
Officials also acknowledged the retirement of Battalion Chief Harbor after nearly 31 years of service, and the department performed badge pinnings and announced reassignments to station shifts.
The presentation highlighted the department's emphasis on internal advancement and external accreditation as factors in maintaining emergency-response capacity.
The meeting continued with other city business after the recognitions.
