The Prince George County School Board used part of its May 11 meeting to recognize staff and community partners.
Nurses: Kira Mogger, the nurse coordinator, introduced division school nurses by school and recognized Stacy Maddox (Beasley Elementary) and Kayla Johnson (South Elementary) for earning Project Adam "heart safe" certification after implementing emergency plans and AED trainings reviewed by Children's Hospital of Richmond affiliates.
Events and volunteers: Mr. Herzing described the Little Feet Meet, an event that served about 600 students with 150 staff and over 100 volunteers focused on inclusion for special-needs students; the board singled out several volunteers and coaches for thanks.
Teacher award and communications: The board congratulated Wanda Gilbert, Prince George High School health and PE teacher, for receiving a statewide driver education teacher award from the Virginia Association of Driver Education and Traffic Safety. Michael Campbell, the division’s public information officer, was recognized on School Communicators Day for division communications work.
SROs and police leadership: Lieutenant Burrows and others were recognized for school safety work; Chief Early was publicly thanked on the occasion of his retirement.
Student recognition: North Elementary presented fifth-grader Emma Brennan as Student of the Month and highlighted STEAM-night programs and a revitalized science fair.
These recognitions took place during the presentations portion of the agenda and require no board action.
